first tuesdays

What’s it all about?
First Tuesdays are a new initiative developed by Cantifix - to share our knowledge, help architects achieve their creative vision, and encourage a collaborative spirit. We have created a dedicated space in our showroom where architects can book in and visit us on the first Tuesday of every month, for free, no-obligation glazing advice.

How does it work?
Cantifix experts will be on hand every month; so bring along your drawings, get advice on detailing and specification, get inspiration and information about new products and solutions, and help to inform and shape Cantifix products of the future!

We want First Tuesdays to create a no-pressure environment - there are no restrictions and we are happy to help out with any kind of project.

Book me in!
First Tuesdays will run up to 7 sessions per day, by appointment, on the first Tuesday of each month.

To book your slot, please call 020 8203 6203, or email innovation@cantifix.co.uk

Generation

At the forefront of the architectural glazing industry, Cantifix are proud to be celebrating 25 years of their family business.

In 1986 Charlie Sharman, his brother William, and their father established Cantifix, a conservatory business. 25 years later, the company is still family run, and has become renowned for experimental and exciting architectural glazing, and its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

In 1990 Eva Jiricna Architects asked Cantifix if they would be interested in working on an experimental glazing project in north London. The project involved frameless glass panels, bonded to each other with silicone, with no structural support. They accepted the challenge and after the successful completion of the project Cantifix became "structural glazing experts".

Working closely with architects and structural engineers, Cantifix takes a project from concept through to final installation. It has developed a reputation for problem solving and attention to detail, and now has a customer base of over 2000 architects, designers and contractors, whom it has been involved with on a range of residential and commercial projects. It also offers an online service, Cantifix Direct, which allows self builders to order a range of glass products for self-installation.

Cantifix's manufacturing facility in north London has expanded to accommodate the growth of the business, but the company is still run by two of its founding directors, Charlie and William Sharman. More recently they have been joined by another brother, Matthew, Charlie's wife, Fiona, and their sister-in-law, Val. "This continuity and personal approach is partly responsible for the growth of Cantifix; enhanced by the talents of our employees and the loyalty of our customers," says Charlie. "People like the fact that we are so hands-on, and appreciate seeing a familiar face."

Bathrooms
Where privacy issues discourage the many, a brave few are fronting up to the use of glass in bathrooms, as the unusual example on the opposite page demonstrates to stylish effect.

"By thinking creatively and using innovative products, natural light can be maximised whilst still maintaining privacy," explains Charlie Sharman, director of specialist-glass market-leaders Cantifix. "As we've proved in a number of our projects, there are plenty of solutions for those whose bathroom is overlooked. Sandblasting or films can be applied in a variety of patterns, allowing privacy without losing natural light. A more unique solution, however, is that which we've recently used in a Bloomsbury bathroom: switchable glass turns, at the touch of a button, from clear to opaque."

Staircases
Light and glass are known to complement each other beautifully, as evidenced by this stunning staircase in Hyde Park - another Cantifix project. Featuring a central column made of toughened glass discs, a magnificent effect is achieved with colour changing LEDs.
