Self Build & Design December 2009

Charlie Sharman loves glass - and it shows. In 1986 Charlie, his brother William and their father established Cantifix, a conservatory business. Since then the company has become renowned for experimental and exciting architectural glazing, specialising in glass structures designed to meet the most extracting requirements. Working closely with architects and structural engineers, Cantifix takes a project from concept through to final installation. The company also offers an online service which allows self builders to order a range of glass products for self-installation. Cantifix's manufacturing facility in north London has expanded to accommodate the growth of the business, but the company is still run by two of its founding directors, Charlie and William Sharman. More recently they have been joined by another brother, Matthew, and Charlie's wife, Fiona. "We now have a customer base of around 1,500 architects, designers and contractors," says Charlie. "Poeple like the fact that we are so hands-on and appreciate seeing a fimiliar face."

Architects Choice October 2009

Cantifix, the structural glazing specialists who achieved 16 percent growth in 2008, reached the finals of the National Business Awards Regional Programme (made up of nine categories), in the category of small to medium size business. More than sixty organisations were shortlisted in the South of England heat, with Cantifix as one of the eight finalists in their category. Finalists made their presentations in person before an independent expert judging panel, and the winner was unveiled at a gala dinner and awards ceremony. Commenting on the National Busniess Awards, sponsor Orange UK's Vice President of Business Paul Toilet said: "This year`s finalists clearly demonstrated the resilience, adaptability and success needed to drive the economy forward." "Entrants have shown both resilience and optimism that are the hallmarks of UK enterprise". Cantifix chairman Charlie Sharman said "Being a finalist in our category recognises the efforts of all the Cantifix team".

British Builder & Developer October 2009

Commenting on a recently completed project, Charlie Sharman, Chairman of Cantifix Ltd says, "New extensions to older properties come in a variety of different forms, but the easiest form is single storey with a flat roof. The technology of roof membranes has advanced sufficiently for them to be virtually maintenance-free and this has precipitated a return to this functional design. Of course this still leaves room for design statements and often this includes glass. In this instance the glass space on the left becomes a room within a room, whilst the rest of the glazing is intergrated, but more conventional. Glass is an essential component of modern living and its adaptability and flexibility mean that the design is capable of adding more than just functionality."
