To create a clean and uninterrupted façade, structurally silicone bonded fixed lights can be adjoined using just a minimal silicone joint, with no pressure plates, no protruding bolts, just one line of smooth glass.
The frames into which the glass is bonded are also minimalised, using just a simple ‘L’ shape angle, or possibly a channel. These aluminium profiles are hidden from view by the supporting plaster, or render, giving truly ‘frameless’ fenestration.
There are no problems regarding barrier loadings, as the double glazed units are composed of glass able to provide more than enough support. The glass will accommodate the necessary wind loads, transferring the forces to the minimalist framework, and into the supporting structure.
