Flush Threshold
Product Details
The best way to minimise the boundary between what is inside and what is outside, is to conceal the perimeter framework in the finishes. In the case of a sliding, folding or casement door opening this will require a flush threshold.
By keeping the cill of the door flush with the internal and external finishes, a seamless transition is possible, but special care must be taken with the drainage.
In most cases the drainage from the cill section will be underneath the floor level and must be allowed to run away. This is obviously not a problem if timber decking is the chosen finish outside, as the water will drain under the deck. However if a hard finish, such as a tile, is chosen then there must be provision for either a surface or hidden drain.
It is also critical to consider the likelihood of flooding and for this reason a surface drain is often run directly in front of the doors.
