Vertical Glazing
Product Details
A glass unit is quite capable of spanning large distances and can certainly run from floor to ceiling in virtually all homes. The glass is also strong enough to allow doors and windows to be structurally glazed within the facade.
The lightness of the glass against the frame of the door produces a satisfying contradiction and, more importantly, a convenience of use. The door can either span between floor and ceiling or it can be set with a panel of glass above. In this instance it is critical that no load is transmitted to the opening doors and the panel of glass will have to be one unit.
Many times the facade will include a glass to glass corner, which enhances the impression of a glass box, while still retaining the intimacy of a solid roof. Using large glass panels is a quick and very effective way of building, as long as the engineering calculations have been made to prevent any load from the solid roof being transferred to the glass.
