Project Details

This building was once the local Magistrates Court and comes complete with secure jails. The extension, conceived by Terry Poulson Architects, is unashamedly contemporary and contrasts dramatically with the original building.
The structural glass pods break up the pure lines of the stone cladding and create pockets of architectural interest. However their primary function is to bring light into the building and they are sandblasted to retain privacy. The rear facade is all clear glass with large sliding doors, around a private courtyard.
Glass floors have been included in the scheme as the ideal space saving solution to bring light into the new basement areas.
