Following its appearence on the Dezeen website last year, Marco Guarnieri's (of Guarnieri Architects) Victorian Remix project has been shortlisted for a prestigious Sunday Times British Home Awards 2018. The Home Transformation of the Year category seeks the best restoration, refurbishment or conversion of British homes and it's an honour that a project where our glazing was so integral to the finished article has been considered.
As well as reconfiguring the layout of the house, the clients wanted to add a pool, hot tub and steam room to a new basement at the back of the property. Planning regulations meant the construction had to be visually unobtrusive, so the architect opted for a mostly frameless double height extension to the rear of the property. The pool is underground and set back from the facade, but still benefits from extraordinary amounts of natural light, meaning it never feels dingy and connects the space to the garden. A mezzanine level contains a small dining area, set just off the kitchen at the original ground floor level.
It's always exciting when a project we've been involved in is shortlisted for an award, so best of luck to Marco at the judging later this year!
