Mansfield College

Despite being one of Oxford University’s younger colleges, Mansfield College, founded in 1838, still boasts stunning historical architecture. When the Victorian buildings required an update and extension in 2013, old and new had to be sensitively joined with a variety of glass panels and façades.

project details

  • Using a crane, expansive panels of double glazed glass were carefully inserted into grooves cut in the walls of the original buildings.
  • PureGlaze doors were used throughout the scheme to minimise the visual impact whilst maintaining insulation levels for temperature and noise.
  • The large glass atrium roof included solar control coatings, to increase the comfort level without reducing natural light.
