The Queens College.

The Queen's College was founded in 1341 and is a constituent college of the University of Oxford. Cantifix were asked to help build a glass wall to house the new lift from the basement kitchens and link the two previously separate listed buildings with the new Fellows’ Dining Hall. The frameless glazing ensures transparency and an uninterrupted view of the stained glass window.

project details

  • The 8 metre high glass wall has one vertical steel support on the inside and has been divided into 6 structurally glazed panels for practicality.
  • The double glazed panel sit in carefully cut grooves in the original structure and are shaped around the stone detailing.
  • The internal single-glazed lift enclosure and glass roof were important parts of the brief, where a high strength laminated glass was incorporated for extra safety.
  • The completed glass wall and lift enclosure compliments the old buildings and blends in with the Palladian style surroundings.
