Gravelly Grounds
About
Much like a rhubarb and custard sweet, the value of this architectural project belongs to its contrasting flavours. The skeleton of Gravelly Grounds might be that of a rustic farmhouse (albeit a present-day interpretation of one), but the addition of our bespoke glazing – including a glass box extension – gives it a modern, stylish twist, flooding the spaces with natural light and enhancing the visual appearance of the building materials that have been used.
The Challenge
Our client has a wonderful formal garden, so they wanted to make it a key design focal point. As well as catching glimpses of the greenery through glass doors and large windows, they also wanted to incorporate a glass extension into the design in which they could sit, relax, and enjoy the outside world. With a varied range of glazing requirements, we were glad when we were asked to come on board the project as specialist consultants who could provide our expertise.
The Glass
To maximise clarity and remove any obstacles that might interrupt the client’s view, we chose to use frameless, low-iron glass for the extension. 50 years ago, the exclusive use of glazing might have impacted its energy efficiency, but with modern technologies such as Low-E coatings and thermal barriers, the project can look stylish whilst also maintaining optimum thermal comfort. Aside from the glass box extension, the project also features multi-panelled folding glass doors, Sky Frame floor-to-ceiling panels, and plenty of embellishments that flood the spaces with natural light – looking great while doing so.
The Results
We believe the quality of this project is captured through the high-quality images found on this page. They highlight the stylish contrast between traditional materials (such as bricks, mortar and wood) and those of today – namely, glass. The abundance of glazing floods the spaces with natural daylight, and at night, views of the garden continue, thanks to state-of-the-art modern lighting.
Every single day of the year, our client can sit in their glass extension and observe the changing seasons. If you would like to have the same experience, we invite you to get in touch today.
