About

Aside from a comfortable chair, a good book in your hands and a glass of something suitably nice within easy reach, what makes a living room special? The answer to that question, in our opinion, is the addition of stylish, modern, technologically advanced glazing. After all, bespoke glass can flood a room with natural light - the benefits of which we have spoken about at length - enhance the appearance of your design, and even improve its functionality and energy efficiency.

All of these compelling benefits were positioned at the front and centre of our client’s mind when they began planning the renovation of their large terraced home in the heart of Fulham and invited us on board as glazing specialists who could offer our expertise whenever it was needed.

The Challenge

Located at the rear of our client’s home on Ranelagh Avenue is a large kitchen, dining and living space that backs directly onto the garden. There is no denying that this is an excellent space for hosting dinner parties, entertaining guests and generally relaxing, but there is a danger – as with so many other London properties – that all of the cosy, comfortable and stylish benefits that come with an open-plan room will be muted by an absence of natural light. It was vital, therefore, that glazing should play a central role, brightening the space even on an overcast day in the depths of winter, and seamlessly blending ‘out there’ with ‘in here’.

The Glass

To maximise the natural light while maintaining a high level of functionality and visibility, the design incorporates two sets of Sky Frame sliding glass doors located on either side of a central, singular hinged glass door. Their symmetry (three sets of glass doors for three distinctly different areas of the room) contributes to the aesthetics of the overall design whilst also providing several stylish transition points between the house and the garden.

The Results

We hope the photographs speak for themselves, illustrating the many benefits that can be enjoyed when a building is enhanced through the addition of stylish, modern double glazing. In keeping with the surrounding architecture, this design complements the property, rather than dominating it, featuring glass doors – both sliding and hinged – that increase the levels of natural light dramatically and harness views of the garden to bring the outside in.
